Acro Dance Classes at Catherine’s Dance Studio

The popularity of Acro Dance has grown in dance competitions and at Catherine’s Dance Studio we have trained to provide a safe and dedicated environment to practice and learn the skills required for proper execution of Acro Dance. The fusion of Acro Dance incorporates acrobatic elements, such as front and back walkovers, aerials, handsprings, front and back tucks and handsprings with dance elements. The key is to make sure that stunts compliment the dance rather than distracting from it. Your certified and trained instructor will choreograph beautiful pieces to emphasize all your acro dance skills. One of the top reasons dancers should consider acrobatic training is the chance to improve dance skills and athletic ability. Your technique will advance as you develop core strength, flexibility, balance and control.

Our studio offers 3 different levels of acro dance classes at this time. Each girl is assessed for knowledge and technique before being placed in a level.

This class will introduce Pre-K dancers to the world of Acro Dance. Focusing on flexibility and strength, dancers will learn beginner acro moves such as somersaults, pushing up to bridge, cartwheels, and more!

The first level of acro dance is for dancers who have never taken an acro/gymnastics class before. This class will teach dancers how to properly warm up and stretch to perform acrobatic moves. Students will work on beginner acro moves such as, pushing up to bridge, handstands, and cartwheels.

The second level of acro dance is for students who have mastered all the technique and tricks in Acro 1. Dancers will continue to strengthen and stretch in this class to better their acrobatic ability. This class will focus on intermediate tricks such as going into a backbend from standing, backbend kick-overs, one handed cartwheels, introduction to chin stands and much more!

The 3rd level of acro dance is for advanced dancers who have mastered all the technique and tricks in Acro 1 and 2. Dancers will continue to strengthen and stretch in this class to better their acrobatic ability. This class will focus on advanced tricks such as, front and back walkover variations, chin-stands, forearm stands, aerials and more!

“The grace and poise that a student learns in Ballet are transferred to other dances and to a girl’s life out of the studio as well. When I see a girl walking, I can tell she is a dancer. Her shoulders are back, she holds her head high, and she has that extra poise that comes from being a Ballet dancer. She carries herself differently, she is stronger and she knows it. She is a Dancer and that helps define who she is and where she thinks she belongs in the world. What parents give their girls and what she gives to herself in the dance studio makes a difference in her life.” – Catherine Stephenson
