Parenting can be hard. As a parent, there are days when it feels like all you do is make decisions, and you know those decisions helps guide your child along a path that will encourage their emotional, spiritual and physical growth. Some of those decisions are easy, and many of them take sleepless nights and lots of conversations with a spouse or other family members ensuring the best outcome for your child.
As owners of a Dance Studio, we share our experiences and knowledge of having a daughter who danced her entire life and then went on to own a studio. This experience is especially helpful for older girls who choose to compete or are thinking about dancing in college. We feel we are a resource for all of our dancing families in Parkville who desire to get their kids involved in dance and wish to start them in dance at the right time for them. Anytime a parent has a question about their children and dance, we hope they know we are available to them!
Starting Pre-Ballet Class
At Catherine’s Dance Studio, we have a pre-ballet classes for kids as young as 2 ½ as long as they are potty trained. Parents are eager to give their kids the benefits of being in an organized dance class. This teaches them to follow directions and to socialize with other kids. There are mental and physical benefits of taking a pre-ballet class. Younger children learn languages better than their adult counterparts and remember more information. Doing ballet at a young age develops long body lines and strong ballet technique. Ballet develops coordination and mental acuity. Ballet utilizes small and large muscle groups, and it takes years to build these muscle groups. If you have aspirations for your little one to be a great dancer someday, they will need to develop strength, coordination, flexibility, mobility and grace.
Is she ready for Pre-Ballet?
Your young child may be ready for pre-ballet if they can focus on the task at hand, listen and follow directions. Children who prefer to run about the studio may want to wait another six months to a year before taking part in a pre-ballet class. As much as a parent may want to start their daughter in a ballet class, it is best to make sure they have the ability to participate actively. Timing is everything for some children and beginning a ballet class when a child is ready has many more benefits for the child in the short and long run.
Deciding when to start your daughter is a pre-ballet or ballet class is important. Catherine’s Dance Studio offers pre-ballet classes for parents who want to expose their young girls to the benefits of being in a dance class. If you’re unsure that your child is ready for such a class, please call us. We are more than happy to talk to you about your daughter or for you to try a pre-ballet class for free.
